Have you heard The Starfish Story? This wise, uplifting tale by Loren Eisley has been told beautifully by someone who has a special understanding of its message. You can listen on the Helen & Douglas House website (Clip 6) and learn how the lives of children and young adults with life shortening conditions, and their families, are made as rich and happy as possible.
Not long ago some of my pupils at Tudor Hall School introduced me to the piano music of Ludovico Einaudi. It’s always a particular delight when pupils put me on to something new, and I could see at once why this music, with its lyricism and atmosphere, had so much appeal. A great favourite from the collection proved to be a lovely piece called Nefeli. Because it’s fairly long and quite tricky in places I decided to make a shortened and simplified arrangement so that beginning and intermediate pianists could enjoy playing it, perhaps with a view to moving on to the original at a future stage.
I’m delighted to announce that Einaudi’s publisher, Faber Music, has given my simplified arrangement their seal of approval, as well as a license to make it available for downloading. It gives me the greatest pleasure to donate all proceeds from downloads to Helen & Douglas House, which needs to raise £4.5 million annually and relies almost entirely on donations.
The piece costs just one pound, which I know doesn’t sound like much, but after reading The Starfish Story, I think you’ll agree that your contribution WILL make a difference. I hope you’ll enjoy playing it!
